OBDF 211: Waterjet cutting

 My first milestone project this semester has been cut out, and I am fairly satisfied with the results! 


 


The outcome resulted in a mostly perfect cut aside from a minor failure on one of the first cuts just not cutting all the way through, not something that ruins the design, but it could be a concern if the material 100% requires perforations that need to be the proper size. 


I have yet to fold the project as of writing up to this point, but I intend to update this post after I do end up folding it.

OBDF 110 Coaster Complete!

 Finally, my coaster design is finished, the laser cutting was a success, and the assembly of the parts was smooth and without many challenges.  I chose to use plywood because it was already at my desired thickness and because I wanted to see how engraving it would turn out, also because I wanted to be able to make changes after cutting if necessary.   The biggest challenge that I came across with this project was the assembly which I hadn't thought of when I was designing the coaster, it was very important that I had all the parts lined up properly so that I could weave the elastic cord through each petal.  Thankfully the assembly wasn't too difficult with the offcuts being useful for making sure that the channel in the middle layer is properly spaced out to line up with the rest of the parts. OBDF 110 Castle: Finished... FINALLY

 Continuing from the previous assignment, I ran into some snags regarding the boolean and materials tools. For example, if multiple objects are booleaned together and you wish for them to be different materials, you just can't... booleaned objects can't be different materials. Which caused me some issues, so I decided to restart completely from the beginning. Thankfully the model itself was fairly simple to recreate, I made some changes in regards to the critiques I received last class and added what turned out to be the most graphically taxing element of the project... bricks.  The above image shows the sheer number of bricks that I had made so as to give a pre-rendered texture and show the fact that the castle was in fact made of bricks These images above show the raytraced renders of the castle. to my confusion, some of the textures details were lost.
