 Finally, my coaster design is finished, the laser cutting was a success, and the assembly of the parts was smooth and without many challenges.  I chose to use plywood because it was already at my desired thickness and because I wanted to see how engraving it would turn out, also because I wanted to be able to make changes after cutting if necessary.   The biggest challenge that I came across with this project was the assembly which I hadn't thought of when I was designing the coaster, it was very important that I had all the parts lined up properly so that I could weave the elastic cord through each petal.  Thankfully the assembly wasn't too difficult with the offcuts being useful for making sure that the channel in the middle layer is properly spaced out to line up with the rest of the parts. The main difference of the final product compared to the renders would be the colour, the reason for the lack of colour in the final product is due to the fact that it was cut...

 The project for this week was to choose one of the previous posts thumbnails and creating a 3D model and rendering it to post for this week. I chose to make my 12th thumbnail for this project on account of the fact that I had put the most thought into it's design. With this design I intend to make this coaster in layers, with a channel in the second layer so I can take an elastic cord or a wire and thread it through the small holes near the thinner ends of the petals. making them loosely held together 

 This weeks assignment is to make coasters! (Or at least 12 thumbnails for a design) so I did that... not much else to say. I chose to take four ideas (mushrooms, mouths/teeth, roadkill, and plants/leaves) and create three thumbnails based on those four ideas. I really enjoyed the thumbnails I drew up for mushrooms, mouths/teeth, and plants/leaves. But I felt like my designs were lacking for the roadkill thumbs, I felt they all looked too similar to each other.
